Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) multiplayer was first revealed last month when a small group of players got the chance to test it out. During Gamescom Opening Night Live, developer Infinity Ward announced that fans will also have the chance to test out the multiplayer and get their hands on the game’s new 2 vs. 2 mode during the game’s PlayStation 4 open alpha, which begins on Aug. 23.
The announcement came with a short trailer that showed off the 2v2 mode. The alpha will come with five maps, Stack, King, Speedball, Docks, and Pine. Modern Warfare’s multiplayer has been stripped back for this new release. In an effort to take things back to the Modern Warfare series roots, Infinity Ward has slowed the game down in an effort to make things a little more tactical. This should be especially present in the 2v2 mode, where each player has only one life per round.
The new Modern Warfare won’t be a remake of the game of the same name from 2007, but will instead be a “re-imagining” of the series. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is set to release on Oct. 25 and will be available on Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
