CBS All Access becomes ‘Paramount Plus’ next year

CBS All Access, the streaming home of Star Trek: Picard and Jordan Peele’s The Twilight Zone reboot, will change its name early next year to Paramount Plus. The rebranding coincides with parent company ViacomCBS’ push to expand overseas, and gives more visibility to the flagging Paramount Pictures brand, a year after rejoining CBS’ family.

Variety reported ViacomCBS’ announcement, which also follows the re-merger (completed last year) of Paramount with the network. CBS All Access, which costs $5.99 a month (or $9.99 without advertisements), is thought to have about 8 million subscribers, Variety said.

In the U.S., Paramount Plus will be marketed as an all-in-one package that offers subscribers local TV and live sports, such as the NFL, in addition to on-demand series and the company’s back catalog of content.

In addition to Paramount Pictures’ holdings and CBS’ programming, Paramount Plus’s library includes subsidiary networks like BET, Comedy Central, MTV, and Nickelodeon. Those channels will also develop original series for Paramount Plus, Variety said.

Among the shows being developed for a launch on Paramount Plus:

MTV’s Behind the Music — The Top 40: This reboot of the MTV docuseries will explore “the 40 biggest artists of all time,” says a news release.

Lioness — A spy drama based on a real-life CIA program; the hero is a U.S. Marine recruited to befriend a terrorist’s daughter and infiltrate the organization.

The Offer — This is a scripted, limited series based on the experiences of Al Ruddy, the producer of Paramount’s The Godfather, as the landmark 1972 film was being made.
