Ever wanted to try Netflix without paying for it? Now you can

Most streaming services offer free trials to entice people to sign up, but require users’ credit-card information before any trial begins. Netflix has taken the “free sample” idea a step further by putting its original romantic comedy To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before up on its site, available to stream without forking over any financial information, or even an email address.

Though Netflix has done similar trial runs in other countries, it’s the first time the streaming giant has offered a free movie in the United States. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is streaming on Netflix’s homepage — you don’t have to log in, and you don’t have to even tentatively sign up for a subscription.

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, which came out in 2018, stars Lana Condor as Lara Jean Covey, a high-schooler whose life is thrown into chaos when her younger sister mails out all of the love letters she’d written up until that point. Against all odds, the embarrassment borne out of that incident lands Lara in her first real relationship. The movie’s sequel, To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You, has just debuted on Netflix.

The hope is that the first movie, now available for free, will be enough to entice prospective subscribers to register to see the sequel. The free movie also doubles as a demo of just how easy the platform is to use. It’s not a bad option for people trying to figure out how to spend Valentine’s Day.
