Liberated is a new “playable graphic novel” from the small independent team at Atomic Wolf. The action-adventure game seems heavily inspired by atmospheric side-scrollers like Limbo and Inside, but plays out on the pages of a living comic book. You can see the game’s first trailer embedded above, and on YouTube.
The biggest hook in Liberated might not actually be the presentation. It’s likely the narrative, which has a ripped-from-the-headlines, tech-noir vibe. From today’s press release:
It’s also a story about how a democracy can slowly slip into authoritarianism. How extremism can be bred and cultivated through information. We’re dealing with the abuse of personal data and state-driven misinformation, so we live in a world where truth is relative. A revolution is coming, and we’ll be showing the story from multiple opposing perspectives.
It’s a noir-near future where things have gone to shit, that really isn’t very far off.
Liberated doesn’t have a release date yet, but the platforms are locked down. Expect it for PC via Steam and GOG, as well as Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
