NVIDIA partnering with Activision to bring Real-Time Raytracing to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on PC

NVIDIA has announced that they are partnering with Activision and Infinity Ward to bring Real-Time Raytracing to the PC version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, alongside other NVIDIA technology to the PC version.

As the Official PC Partner for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, NVIDIA is working side by side with Infinity Ward’s team of engineers to bring real-time DirectX Raytracing, NVIDIA Adaptive Shading, and other advanced NVIDIA gaming technologies to the PC version of the game.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is poised to reset the bar upon release this October,” said Matt Wuebbling, head of GeForce marketing at NVIDIA. “NVIDIA is proud to partner closely with this epic development and contribute toward the creation of this gripping experience. Our teams of engineers have been working closely with Infinity Ward to use NVIDIA RTX technologies to display the realistic effects and incredible immersion that Modern Warfare offers.

“Our work with NVIDIA GPUs has helped us throughout the PC development of Modern Warfare,” said Dave Stohl, co-studio head at Infinity Ward. “We’ve seamlessly integrated the RTX features like ray tracing and adaptive shading into our rendering pipeline. It’s been a great addition to our existing technology, and we look forward to our PC fans experiencing it for themselves very soon.”

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare for PC will be available exclusively on Blizzard Battle.net on October 25, 2019. The PC version of the game is developed by Beenox in partnership with Infinity Ward. Beenox also worked on the PC version of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare campaign to be ‘traditional’ Call of Duty campaign length

In an interview with GameReactorEU, Infinity Ward’s Studio Narrative Director has given a first indication of how long Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s campaign will be.

According to the interview, the campaign will be ‘traditional’ Call of Duty campaign length, similar to past Infinity Ward Call of Duty campaign lengths. The time is subject to change, of course, as development continues of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

“We’re still working on it, and every single tweak we make to it of the difficult or anything like that can really effect the gameplay time. So we’re not actually explaining what the gameplay length is. I’ll just put it this way, its traditional Call of Duty campaign length.

Previous Infinity Ward Call of Duty campaign times have been around 7-8 hours in length, some more than that, some less. It varies by each game and each game’s story so we will have to wait and see exactly how long Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s campaign will be.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available October 25.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare campaign has a collateral damage score, play-testers have been ’emotional’

In an interview posted by PCGamesN, some new details on how some aspects of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s campaign will work has been discussed.

One of the big ideas behind this year’s game is its realism and how it takes the world we live in and puts you into reality in many situations ‘ripped from the headlines.’ One of the aspects of this is in regards to collateral damage in the campaign. In previous games, if you killed too many civilians, the mission was failed.

In Modern Warfare, that does not happen as easily. This campaign will not stop the mission if civilians are killed. The characters around you will react to what you have done and change the overall mood of what’s happening, but the mission will not fail. Instead, at the end of the mission, it gives you a collateral damage rank, ranked from A through F for what you did in the mission.

Yeah, there are. Call of Duty has always had ‘friendly fire will not be tolerated’ warnings when you kill too many civilians. Obviously, we’re trying to make things much more realistic, much more visceral this time, so that if you kill a single civilian you feel bad, because you might see a woman go for a gun but instead she’s going to grab her baby. We want you to feel bad, and the characters around you will respond and react to what you did, too.

On top of this, we also have a collateral damage score that we give you after each mission, a rank A through to F score. We talk about ‘unknowns’ – an NPC is an unknown until they prove whether they’re a threat or not. If you kill no innocents and you evaluate all unknowns correctly then you’ll end up with a rank A, and if you kill more than three you will get a rank F. There are rewards associated with being as accurate with your threat assessment as possible.

Beyond this, a big thing about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s campaign is how real and emotional it is and can be at some parts. We described some of our feelings about it in our impression posts here, but Infinity Ward — in this interview — stated that some playtesters who have played the game have actually ‘cried’ at some aspects of it.

Joel Emslie, Studio Art Director: It’s because of the weight and gravity we have now, I’ve never seen narrative in a Modern Warfare game like this narrative. The stories [of the original trilogy] were great for that time period, but I think the gaming community expects more now, it has to be more sophisticated, and from what I’ve seen it’s incredible, there’s a really great story driving this thing.

Jacob Minkoff, Campaign Director: We’ve had multiple playtesters cry.

JE: I thought it was a joke when they told me, and then I watched a video of it. It was a real human moment, and now I’m like, ‘I worked on a game that made someone cry.’

JM: To be making people feel emotions that deeply – we’re doing it.

Report: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Cross Play will work similar to Fortnite, based on input matchmaking

One of the biggest announces alongside the reveal of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare last week was that the game will support cross play between the platforms when it launches on October 25.

Since that announcement, there has been a lot of confusion and some inaccurate information about how exactly matchmaking will work with cross play. An Infinity Ward developer on Twitter has shared a link to a Forbes’ article to describe how exactly cross play will work in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

Cross Play will work in this game similar to that of Fortnite. Players will be matched with other players across PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC that have similar input devices (using controllers). Cross Play will work between PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, and if you are using a controller, you will be placed in lobbies with players using controllers.

And, similar to cross play games like Fortnite, in Modern Warfare, if you are on PS4 or Xbox One and team up with a player on PC using a keyboard and mouse, you will then be placed in lobbies with all players — regardless of input devices.

Here’s how Forbes describes it:

Fortnite-style “input matchmaking” will help avoid PC players stomping everyone, as is a common concern. You match with other players with your style of input, controller or M+K, and only go “out of your league” if you’re partied with a PC friend on console, which will get you into mainly PC games.

Activision’s official press release announcing the game only mentioned that “we plan for Modern Warfare to be played together across PC and console through cross-play support” but did not provide specifics exactly.

This is all subject to change as launch on October 25 approaches, so stay tuned.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare soundtrack to be composed by Sarah Schachner

Taylor Kurosaki, Studio Narrative Director at Infinity Ward, has confirmed via Twitter that Sarah Schachner will be returning to compose the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare official soundtrack.

Sarah Schachner is an American composer and musician who has worked on the scores of films, television series’, and video games. She is credited for her work on the soundtracks of many AAA titles, including previous Call of Duty installments such as Infinite Warfare and Modern Warfare 3. Outside of Call of Duty, Sarah has contributed to the soundtracks for Anthem, Far Cry, Assassin’s Creed, and more.

To choose just one track to listen to would be a crime. However, give Operation Black Flag from Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare’s OST a listen. You won’t be disappointed.
