NPD: Modern Warfare is the best selling game of 2019, Call of Duty best selling game of decade

NPD has released the data for the 2019 year for the video game industry in the United States.

Their data has revealed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is the best selling game of the year and was the best selling game of December 2019.

The list for December 2019 shows Call of Duty: Modern Warfare at #1 with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order coming in at #2 for the year.

The NPD also showcased the best selling games of the year 2019, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was #1.

The NPD Group also revealed that Call of Duty has been the best selling game in the US in revenue generated for the last 11 years in a row, making it the best selling franchise of all time.

In addition, the NPD Group released the sales results for the last decade, and Call of Duty dominated the charts with 10 games in the top 15 for best selling in the US during the 2010 through 2019 period.

Call of Duty continues to withstand all the competition and generates billions of dollars per year. Activision has continued to release a Call of Duty game every year since the original title in 2003, and the company does not appear to be stopping.

2020 will mark the launch of the next generation of consoles with a new Call of Duty game as well. It won’t be surprised to see Call of Duty #1 this year again.

Treyarch says there’s still an Easter Egg to be discovered in Tag der Toten

Treyarch is celebrating 115 Day for Zombies in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 with Double XP and more the Zombies players.

Here’s what’s live from now through January 21 at 10AM PT.

Post image

Live today through Jan. 21st in Black Ops 4, we’re treating Zombies players on all platforms to 2XP, 2X Weapon XP, 2X Nebulium Plasma, and the Tungsten Tripler offer in the Laboratory! Jump in, squad up, and slay the undead all week long.

More importantly…however, Treyarch claims on Reddit that a certain Easter Egg in Tag der Toten has not been discovered yet. The studio dropped a teaser on Reddit with a short video clip of how to find the new Easter Egg that has yet to be discovered.

Here’s what Treyarch has to say…

Ever since the release of “Tag der Toten”, we’ve kept a close eye on the community’s Twitch streams, YouTube videos, and Reddit threads to see how many of the map’s meticulously-hidden Easter Eggs would be unearthed. And you’ve done us proud! We were impressed (as always) with how everyone came together to comb through every inch of the Siberian wasteland in search of its secrets… but there’s one surprise that remains undiscovered.

While this one’s just for fun, it does provide an extra-special challenge to keep things interesting once it’s found. Of course, we’re not in the business of providing spoilers, so we’ll let our friend Samantha give you a tiny hint:

Let the hunt begin! If you think you’ve found it, remember to back up your claim with video proof or it didn’t happen. Truth be told, we’re surprised this one slipped under the radar for so long.

Call of Duty titles generated over $1.1 billion in revenue in 2019

SuperData Research has released their 2019 report on the video games industry and the overall results from the digital market worldwide.

Their extensive research report is available to download for free and provides insight into the free to play category, premium games, and streaming services for 2019.

The report has revealed that Call of Duty titles collectively generated over $1.1 billion in revenue in 2019.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare generated over $647 million in revenue through the end of the year. The title released in October and, per Activision, is the most played Call of Duty game of this console generation.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s post launch microtransactions also performed well through the end of the year with the game generated $487 million in revenue in 2019. Combining those two, Call of Duty generated $1.13 billion in revenue in 2019.

Source: SuperData

Call of Duty: Mobile also released in 2019, and per Super Data, the title generated $116 million total in revenue.

Bringing AAA game franchises to mobile proved to be a successful strategy for publishers. Call of Duty Mobile earned $116.8M in 2019 a\er its October release, and Mario Kart: World Tour also launched on mobile. Instead of simply applying a franchise brand to a mobile game, these games truly mirror the feel of their console counterparts. Their success also shows that gamers are willing to play a wide range of genres on a touchscreen.

The industry continued to shift towards free to play in 2019 with free to play games generating a 6% increase in revenue in 2019 versus 2018. More companies are slowly starting to adopt the free to play model, bringing more players into their game universe.

2020 is a big year for gaming as the new generation of consoles arrive. The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will be launching in Holiday 2020.

Treyarch removing limit on Pick-a-Weapon bribe in Black Ops 4 for limited time

Treyarch and Activision have announced a limited time promotion in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 for those looking to get new weapons from the Black Market.

Introduced in an update in November, the Pick-a-Weapon bribe allowed users to pick the weapon they wanted by trading in 50 Reserve Crates. The catch with it was that it was only available once every 30 days.

Now, for a limited time starting on December 10, that limit is removed. You can get as many Pick-a-Weapon bribe as you want by trading in 50 Reserve Crates for a limited time.

More details to come.

Blackout Update: Hot & Heavy Moshpit + Duos Return

Post image

First up, Blackout news! After a few rounds of testing LTM moshpits and rotating playlists to keep wait times low across all regions, we’ve collected enough data to plan what’s next for Blackout. We’re happy to announce that we’re expanding the playlist selection on consoles today, and we’ll be keeping them in place for the foreseeable future. This selection includes:

  • Hot & Heavy Moshpit (Hot Pursuit and Heavy Metal Heroes)
  • Alcatraz Quads
  • Quads
  • Duos
  • Solo

We’ve seen a ton of requests for a Moshpit offering our two most popular redeploy modes, and we’ve been working behind the scenes to make it happen for our players. It takes time for the team to script, test, and implement new Blackout Moshpits, and we’re excited to launch these updates today. Props to the community for suggesting such a fitting title!

Thanks again for all your feedback and support while we’ve tested these new Moshpits over the past few weeks. While it’s not possible to please everyone all the time, we wanted to make sure we collected feedback on several variations before landing on a long-term plan. We never make playlist changes lightly or without real data, and we’ll always focus on what’s best for our global community… even if it takes a little longer than you might expect.

See you at Firing Range.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 November 12 Update – Black Market Changes

Treyarch has released the latest Game Settings Update for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on Tuesday, November 12, and this new update has brought some huge changes to the Black Market.

The changes make the Black Market more user friendly and not a pay to win situation that it has been over the last year. Treyarch making this change so far out from launch seems to be related to the fact that Activision executives recently made the decision to not have any supply drops in Modern Warfare.

The new changes for the Black Market in Black Ops 4 are:

Black Market Revamp: Earn Weapons and Items in Blackjack’s Shop

Post image

We’re excited to roll out today’s new Black Market revamp that gives all Black Ops 4 players new direct paths to earning new weapons and rewards through gameplay. Here’s what you’ll see when you visit Blackjack’s Shop today:

  • Pick-a-Weapon Bribe: Trade in 50 Reserve Cases to unlock a weapon of your choice from a Crate that also includes 2 Reserve items, along with a bonus of 5 Duplicate-Protected Crates for 15 additional Reserve items. Choose from a selection of base weapons, Mastercrafts, MKII weapons, Signature Weapons, and even the new MicroMG 9mm SMG or Eye of Apophis melee weapon. Watch for this bundle to refresh on a regular basis in the future.
  • Reserves Stack: This new rotating offer displays a Reserve item that you don’t currently own, which can be unlocked by trading in 2 Reserve Cases. With the Reserves Stack, you’ll be able to see Reserve items before acquiring them. This offer will refresh to reveal a new item on a regular basis and refreshes instantly after acquiring the current item on display.
  • My Deals: Two new rotating offers can now be unlocked with Reserve Cases and will always showcase items that you don’t currently own. Like the Reserves Stack, these will refresh on a regular basis, or instantly after the current item on display has been acquired.

If you see it in Blackjack’s Shop, you can earn it by trading in Reserve Cases! And speaking of new items to earn…

New Rewards and New Zombies Gauntlet on Xbox One + PC

Post image

Today’s update introduces a new collection of Black Market rewards to earn on Xbox One and PC, including the new “MicroMG 9mm” SMG, “Eye of Apophis” amulet weapon, “Pentagon Thief” Blackout character, as well as new Reactive Camos, weapon camos, outfits, Death Effects, Weapon Charms, and more. If you haven’t seen the Eye of Apophis in action yet (or been on the receiving end of one)… it’s pretty wild.

Post image

Our new “Tag der Toten” Zombies Gauntlet also arrives today on Xbox One and PC with “An Ice Day in Hell”, delivering 30 new rounds of challenges to complete for in-game rewards at rounds 10, 20, and 30. Good luck conquering all 30 with no strikes!2XP Stockpile in Multiplayer

Our second 2XP Featured Playlist joins the MP rotation this week with the return of Stockpile! We’ve had plenty of requests for this one to come back since its debut, so get in there and rank up all week long while it’s in the spotlight. Party game fans should keep an eye out for 2XP Prop Hunt coming to all platforms next Tuesday.

Duos Moshpit, Alcatraz Quads, Contract Fixes, and PC Optimization in Blackout

Post image

We’re constantly examining Blackout wait times across multiple regions and optimizing playlists to make sure people get into matches as quickly and reliably as possible around the world. While the introduction of LTM Moshpits and our new rotating playlist schedule make this possible, we understand these changes can come at the expense of those who play core modes exclusively.

Furthermore, our Daily Contract schedule wasn’t properly lined up with the latest playlist schedule, which led to a few Contracts that couldn’t be completed on certain days last week. PC players have also been asking for ways to start matches sooner… and we definitely heard your feedback on Alcatraz Duos. Today, we’re addressing everything above.

Quads-only players: we heard you last week and we’re keeping Quads permanently. For players asking for more Duos matches, we’re introducing our new Duos Moshpit today featuring Ambush Duos, Hardcore Duos, Down But Not Out Duos, and Close Quarters Frenzy Duos. If variety isn’t your thing, core Duos will be added to rotation more frequently in the near future.

Alcatraz Quads is replacing Alcatraz Duos today, and we’re keeping it at Quads. We heard your feedback that redeploying into the chaos of Alcatraz is more forgiving and simply more fun as a full squad, and while we heard from players who preferred the Duo model, we agree that Alcatraz works better in fours.

Starting today on consoles, all Contracts should always line up with the playlists currently live in Blackout. For example, this means you shouldn’t see a Daily or Hard Contract that can’t be completed that day because the mode required was currently out of rotation. Let us know if you do.

We’ve recently adjusted the maximum player count for Moshpit game types on consoles to 80 players, ensuring a balanced chance of matching into any available LTM. And on PC, we’ve reduced the maximum player count to 60 with a minimum of 50 players on all core and limited-time mode playlists. This should result in faster match start times across the board, while keeping the max player count at 40 in Alcatraz. We’ve also brought the PC playlist selection back to three playlists per week to further improve matchmaking health.

Keep your feedback coming, and enjoy the new Duos LTMs this week!

Weapon Charm/Death Effect Bug Fix

This update also fixes the pesky bug that prevented certain Weapon Charms and Death Effects from staying equipped after a match. This one has proven especially tough to nail down, so please let us know if you’re still experiencing this issue after today’s game update.

Here’s what’s new today:

Patch Update 1.25 for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 live now

Treyarch has released the latest patch update for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The patch update is version 1.25 and is 4.7GB.

This new update was mentioned by Treyarch during a community update last week bringing new content for Zombies on PS4, including a Gauntlet, with other platforms to follow.

Treyarch also noted that there will be big Black Market Updates coming to the game on November 12 on all platforms.

Here’s the early patch notes for today’s update:

Today, our new major game update kicks off our ongoing game support across Multiplayer, Blackout, and Zombies in Black Ops 4, and brings new rewards and Zombies Gauntlet content to PS4. Let’s get into what’s new:

MULTIPLAYER: Permanent Nuketown, Echohawk Dual Bore and AN-94 Weapon Tuning, Scythe Tuning, Upcoming Weekly 2XP Playlists

Post image

It’s here! Starting today, Nuketown is now a permanent 24/7 playlist in the Featured Playlist category… all the Nuketown you ever wanted, whenever you want it. Good luck, have fun, and go nuts.

Shortly after today’s update, we’ll also be adding weekly 2XP to our showcased Featured Playlists going forward, so you’ll be able to rank up twice as fast whenever you’d like. We’ve got a long list of 2XP Featured Playlists scheduled throughout the year including 2XP Stockpile, 2XP Capture the Flag, and 2XP Prop Hunt, so you’ll always have something new to play while you rank up even faster. Check in every Tuesday to see what’s in the spotlight each week.

In the weapon tuning department, we’ve got good news for assault rifle users. We’ve increased the maximum damage and burst fire speed for the Echohawk Dual Bore, in addition to improving its recoil pattern for better control. The AN-94 also gets a boost to its maximum damage today, making both weapons more competitive in Core and Hardcore game types.

Lastly, we agree Reaper has probably had it a little too good for too long, so we’ve made some important tuning adjustments to the Scythe. While we’re keeping its damage output in place, we’ve reduced its duration by 25% (from 40 to 30 seconds) and greatly reduced its ammo count from 150 to 100 rounds to make sure rampages are hard-earned. Jump into a match and let us know what you think.

BLACKOUT: New LTM Moshpits and Streamlined Playlist Interface

Post image

Starting today, we’re taking a new approach to Blackout matchmaking with LTM Moshpits to give everyone the opportunity to play a wider variety of Blackout modes while also keeping wait times low. This rotating playlist offers up to four limited-time modes each week, with a five-week schedule including two Quads Moshpits, a Solo Moshpit, Duos Moshpit, and Redeploy Moshpit.

For example, this week’s Quads Moshpit features the following Quads LTMs:

  • Heavy Metal Heroes
  • Ground War
  • Ambush
  • Down But Not Out

LTM Moshpits will serve as a Quickplay playlist on all platforms, placing players into the lobby closest to starting a match. These Moshpits also introduce several new LTM variants for the first time on all platforms, including Ambush Duos, Close Quarters Frenzy Duos, Hardcore Solo, and Pandemic Solo.

Because Blackout’s LTMs have historically proven more popular with players than any given core mode (Quads, Duos, or Solo), we’ve made the decision to shift the number of playlists on consoles from five to four, allowing for two Featured Playlists (LTM Moshpits and Alcatraz) plus a weekly selection of two core modes: Solo/Duos, Duos/Quads, or Solo/Quads.

We’re taking this streamlined approach to get more players into matches faster with more variety in gameplay, as adding more dedicated playlists would have the opposite effect. While we understand this isn’t the perfect model for players who only gravitate toward one Blackout mode exclusively, we’d like to ask everyone to spend some time with the new Moshpits, enjoy the all-new LTM variants, and let us know what you think once you’ve had time to check out the new format. We’ll see you out there!
